TV-9D9 / Re: The Acolyte (Disney+)
« on: August 21, 2024, 05:11 PM »
This makes the 3rd live-action Disney SW series that wasn't renewed for a second season, presumably because the ratings weren't there. I wonder if that will re-shape budgets  or thematic parameters for new productions.

That was an usual experience. Around 18 min after the site opened I finally finally got in. Got some weird “blocked” message when I clicked on the Starspeeder. Futzed around the site and eventually was able to click onto the starspeeder page, only to get a pop-up that it was sold out . After spending another 25 min looking for gifts, seeing the “blocked” message a couple of times, geting knocked off the site and having to re-queue, I went back to the Starspeeder, and again, got the “sold out” pop-up  multiple times after trying to add it to my cart. But then… added!

Maybe someone had it in their cart all that time and decided not to buy it?  ???

If only I put half  as much effort when I was in school that I put into this hobby…  ::)

I have the 2nd version, and I'm content with it. This one looks a lot nicer. I would definitely have pulled the trigger if I didn't have a different rendition.

Update:
D'oh.The photo of the back of the box says the ship has an  LCD screen. That just might've turned me.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 TVC Blurrg & The Mandalorian
« on: July 27, 2024, 10:37 PM »

That $25 can't possibly be right (the press release says $40).  I grabbed two at $25 as that seems like a nice deal without having to wait for clearance.

edit:
I must have gotten my orders in just under the wire - as of 3pm CT the Blurrg is now at the correct $39.99 price.

I ordered mine around 1:30p PT and it was $39.99.

Hopefully, you guys get the reduced price. As a warning, though, I seem to recall some folks placing a pre-order for some TBS for cheap  only to have the price bumped up or order canceled way later. (I don't remember.)

Other Collectibles / Young Jedi Adventures - Crimson Firehawk
« on: July 21, 2024, 06:58 PM »
I was attracted to the Crimson Firehawk but really want to maintain focus on the 3.75" line. Then I saw a picture of 3.75" figures in the ship. The Reddit poster does say it's not a perfect match, but a new paint job and greeblies, as he noted, will make it less cartoony. What's great -- but a bad sign for the life of the line -- is the ship is only $15.99 w/ prime membership on amazon, so I ordered one. I've seen it at Ross a few times also.

Could see an Ewok Village as another good candidate if they think this went well.

This has been on my Haslab want list. Got to include Vader's funeral pyre.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Do You Keep a Carded Set of TVC?
« on: July 9, 2024, 03:50 PM »
I'm a loose collector. Tried 1-loose-1-carded in the early POTF2 days but I found myself wanting to open the carded duplicates weeks later. Still have a few carded figures because I just haven't gotten around to opening them or have no desire/need to touch the figure or accessories like the Haslab Yakface and coin.

Our fanbase/collectors are an odd bunch.  I know so many people who hate the sequel trilogy with a passion, but grab up all the Kylo Ren merchandise they can get their hands on!

Ugh. I have a friend who repeatedly declares that he hates *ALL* Disney Star Wars because, he says, they aren't what George Lucas would make...but then he ranks Rogue One 3rd or 4th overall and goes on incessantly about how we need more of the Obi-wan series.   ::)

People are so wedded to their agenda. Geezuz it's OK to dislike some or all of anything but man, be honest to yourself.

Disney Parks Droid Factory / Re: Disney Mystery Crate Series 2
« on: July 3, 2024, 10:04 PM »
I got 5 droids from the 8 crates a friend grabbed for me. Being the anal dumb-ass that I am, I had to complete the series, and was able to get the 6th on eBay cheaply.

It surprisingly cost me less money and effort to complete S2 than S1.

Bring on Series 3.  ::)

July 3, 2024 coments below.

I'm just not feeling Series 2.

I was able to complete the first set with an in-store purchase of several crates -- the first time I had been back at Disneyland in decades --  and an eBay pick-up of the two droids I didn't have. I was lucky. That wasn't fun and it wasn't cheap.

I'd be more gung-ho if the domes on the astromechs weren't the same style we repeatedly get. And I can't stand bb-8-type droids as a figure.

I had 3 sets of friends go to Disneyland just before S2 was released. If someone I know goes and happens to come across the crates, I'll probably ask them to pick up a few. But I have no intention of actively completing a set.

Arghh. I have a fondness for those characters from the 90s (and 80s) comics and books. I missed finalizing my list. Again.

Stoopid Easter.

The two on the left look like they were released that way!  But the two on the right have a little too much facial hair to be convincing Imperials.  That's something that always gets me with some Imperial custom figures - too much facial hair.  The Empire always struck me as a bit too uptight for that sort of thing.

I get the same sense, too.

In keeping with Rob's comment in the other thread about Motti and Piett in Hoth rebel disguise, I look at the two on the right as rebels in Imperial disguise. In best sterotypical Fargo language: "Nothing to see here. We're just a couple of Imperial officers doing Imperial stuff, don'cha know." Haha.

@Rob - the face skin tone on the right-most looks a bit darker than the hands. If you care, maybe pair that noggin with the gloved hand?

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: February 18, 2024, 01:41 PM »
As an opener, all of the packaging goes to the recycling bin. But those carded figs sure look nice together. I wouldn't mind posters of them.

As for the future of the figures... hope the increased clearances I'm seeing is from AFTER a big increase in production runs and not from the already relatively lower quantities Hasbro has been sending to retailers the last several years.

I wondered why my order hadn't arrived yet. Checked on the status and saw i hadn't pushed out the purchase. And ShopDisney  is now out. Ugh! Stoopid work distractions.

I'll grab if they re-stock or if someone heads out to Disneyland. No big loss if I don't get the set.

Surprising that Hasbro's coming out with it and happy they're expanding their portfolio. I considered getting a second to customize but i figure this ship will be re-released in all sorts of deco.
