The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 TVC Wave 7 (New TVC Wave 39)
« on: October 29, 2024, 02:46 PM »
If we end up getting this wave within the next 1-2 weeks I wonder what that means for the remainder of 2024? Amazon/EE currently have the Wave 40 dates between March/May, I'd have to imagine that those would hopefully be coming sooner, too.

Based on past performance?  It seems like those estimated delivery dates get padded anywhere from 1 - 2 months.  We usually experience a post holiday lull.  That's been the way of things as long as I can remember.  I think that wave could turn up as early as February if Hasbro has published March - May.

Sighted in the wild last night - K-2SO at GameStop!  The rest of the wave can't be far behind.

These were some decent reveals.  But there's a similarity in the two figures that is a little frustrating.

I like this version of Obi-Wan.  Because it's a bridge between him over the course of the OWK and his future in ANH.  I know that a lot of people associate this look for Obi-Wan with the Sideshow Mythos statue.  And it's interesting to see how that particular statue has shaped people's ideas of Obi-Wan during the period between the PT and the OT.  But as far as other characters from the OWK series?  Leia is a glaring omission.  And I hope that Hasbro will address her at some point, because the series essentially revolves around her.

Yord looks like a great figure.  If this is the next in a series of figures from The Acolyte?  Bring them on if they're going to look this good!  I personally want to see Kelnacca as well as the Stranger.  We'll see what happens with figures from the series in due time.  I guess things were far enough into the development process that Hasbro couldn't just cancel them and do something else.

It seemed like there was a lot more focus on Ghostbusters and other licenses.  But then they are in the midst of a Haslab campaign, right?

Glad to see Emily back, though!  That was a positive development.

It also seems to be worth discussing the fact that Hasbro is looking to move away from the Pipeline Reveals.  It seems to have made things predictable when it comes to the product announcements on the livestreams, and has sucked any sense of surprise out of the mix.  I can't say that I'm completely opposed to that notion.

The TVC 1.0 Aurra Sing is one of my favorite figures from that era.  Especially the case that was included with the original version, which held the lightsaber hilts of Jedi that she had taken out.

...but this version doesn't include that.  There's also a new cardback.  The cardback alone always gets me because we're veering into "Just different enough to make you mad" territory.

I've seen a fair amount of criticism about this figure.  Some of it is well deserved.  A lot of it has to do the perception that the TPM wave in TVC 1.0 was responsible for the demise of that line.  That's partly accurate, but doesn't take into account how Aurra Sing was among the 7 characters that were released in both TVC and the Discover The Force line that was exclusive to Walmart.  Doubling up on those characters was part of why there was a glut of TPM figures in The Vintage Collection.

The other criticism I've seen regards the articulation of the figure.  2012 standards of articulation were good then.  But I've seen calls for the current types of hip and ankle articulation which are lacking on this figure.  It would be nice if Hasbro would build a new Aurra Sing from the ground up, but I can't see them investing those resources into a character that's from a blink and you miss it moment in TPM, or her appearances in The Clone Wars.  And can anyone realistically expect Hasbro to re-engineer an existing figure to include such significant changes in articulation?

One concession I will make?  Aurra Sing fits in that whole "Return to Tatooine" theme.  Her "blink and you miss it" appearance in TPM is on Tatooine.  I've seen some people express the sentiment that they saw that theme as being almost exclusive to characters from ANH, which was stunning to me.  Uhhhh... have they watched the first act of ROTJ?!?!?

Make sure to RSVP to the event on the Hasbro Pulse site.  That's the only way to get the exclusive link for the livestream.

Had to go back to page 3 to find this thread...

Jayson says these are now starting to hit the US ports.  If the recent pattern holds, that'd mean they will start shipping to us in 3-4 weeks.

I wonder when they are finally gonna reveal and take pre-orders for the E-Wing pilot (Lt. Callahan) that they pipelined back in February?

Bossk's Bounty got an exclusive reveal for Lt. Callahan as part of the MCM London Comic Con reveals

Exclusive Reveal: Star Wars The Vintage Collection Lieutenant Callahan VC351

The figure looks pretty good!  Oh, but those white boots...

The Snowtrooper is something that I know people have been asking Hasbro to make for some time.  The VTSC version was great in it's time, but is showing its age in terms of the pose and articulation.  The new version seems to address a number of those concerns.

I also think that Hasbro is looking at the Snowtrooper as the basis for a number of future releases.  They could easily make a deluxe version that comes with an E-WEB.  And a troop builder 4-pack seems like a pretty obvious release.  Tweak this figure slightly with a new cowl, rank badge and a pistol holster?  And you've got the Snowtrooper officer.

I think the Snowtrooper officer could then provide some building blocks for a possible Galactic Marine.  The helmets and chest plates are pretty similar.  Whether or not Hasbro pursues that?  We'll see.

I think getting Dr. Evazan on the market again is a good way to reward people who backed the Cantina but might not have the TVC 1.0 release.  But the alternate cardback screams pure cash grab.

Hard to tell from the angle of the photos, did they fix the helmet?

They did.  Jing mentioned during the panel that "We listened to what you had to say.  And the helmet is interchangeable", or something to that effect.  The addition of the poncho was a nice touch, too, as is putting Sabine on a basic figure card.

I think the inclusion of the alternate legs for the Howler was a really nice touch.  There's a limit to how much you can articulate those limbs, so the alternate legs really open up the possibilities for poses.  I'm wondering if this will be the only Howler release, or if Hasbro might release more down the road with other figures?  I know Baylan and Shin are both on the way, and I think they both wind up riding Howlers, too.  And then there are the Peridean Raiders, who also seem to ride them.

An image of Jude Law's character from Skeleton Crew - Jod Na Nawood - as realized in The Vintage Collection has been making the rounds on social media today.  It seems as though it was the mystery figure in a case that someone had ordered, and sure enough, there he was!

Steve Evans has been putting out some teases about the Ghost on his social media.  I get the feeling that we're going to get a big reveal for the Hasbro 1027 event.

It looks like mine is due to arrive next week.  I ordered this on the late side, so I'm not surprised by the slightly later delivery date.  But I'm glad to see that Hasbro is filling out the Mandalorian ranks with on-screen Mandos.

Theoretically?  I think it probably does.  But when you get into the specifics of that kind of offering, how much new ground is getting covered?  How many are absolute "Must Haves" that have never been made before?  How many would be an exercise in "Checking A Box" by releasing a character that's been previously made, but just may not be in TVC?  And how many figures from previous lines are not close to being up to spec?

If I were to specifically come up with 12 Cantina characters for a theoretical Haslab figure dream pack, I think we might start getting into some questionable territory because of some basic criteria.
-Should any of the original Kenner 20 back Cantina aliens be included?  I'm leaning towards no.  IMHO those should be mainline figures, and include: Ponda Baba (Walrusman), Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead), Greedo, and Zutmore (Snaggletooth).
-How many all-new characters should comprise the 12?
-How many comparable costumes would be acceptable?  Looking specifically at the characters in flight / space suits like BoShek, Danz Borin & Cantina Dude

My 12 would include:
-Ellors Madak
-Baniss Keeg
-Djas Puhr
-Takeel
-Morlimor Snugg (Blue Snaggletooth)
-Lak Sivrak
-Melas
-Dannik Jerriko
-Lirin Car'n
-Ownellco
-Danz Borin
-Tzizvvt

Would 6 re-sculpts and 6 new characters satisfy most people?  Or would you want to see more all-new characters?
